Modelon is looking for a Cloud Platform Engineer responsible for the design, development, and operation of their cloud platform. You play a key role in how the product team builds, delivers, and scales Modelon's services for some of the world's most demanding and well-known industrial customers – and in ensuring that the platform maintains a high and sustainably technical standard.
About the role
Modelon develops software for system simulation used by leading industrial companies worldwide to design and optimize complex physical systems. The company's main product, Modelon Impact, is a cloud-based platform for simulation-based design and development, built on open standards and used in everything from aerospace, space, and automotive industries to energy and process industries.
Modelon Impact is used to make technical decisions early in the product development cycle, where the demands for accuracy, performance, and traceability are high. The platform combines advanced simulation technology with modern SaaS principles, which is unusual in this industry.
Modelon is a global company headquartered in Lund with offices in the USA, Germany, India, and Japan, with a long-term strategic focus on making system simulation more accessible and efficient in industrial development workflows.
Modelon is now expanding its Cloud Platform Team and is looking for an experienced engineer who wants to be part of developing the cloud platform that forms the foundation for the company's products and continued growth.
You are offered
- A key role in Modelon's cloud and platform initiative: You have a central role in the transition from a centralized operations and DevOps setup to a decentralized, product-oriented platform team. The focus is on building and further developing the tools and platform services that make the development team effective and independent.
- Work with advanced cloud and platform solutions: You will work with a modern tech stack (Azure, Kubernetes, GitOps) in an environment where the cloud platform is business-critical and used to deliver advanced simulation services to some of the world's most demanding industrial customers.
- Focus on development and improvement, not ongoing management: The role is focused on improving, automating, and further developing the platform, in a culture where technical learning and continuous improvement are central.
Responsibilities
The role goes beyond traditional operations and management. You are part of the work to develop an internal platform where the platform is the product. A central responsibility is to abstract away the complexity of the cloud and provide stable, well-defined platform services that make development teams independent in how they build, deliver, and operate their products.
In the role, you are expected to:
- Drive the technical direction: Drive the transformation towards a distributed DevOps culture and ensure that the platform functions as a product for internal developers.
- Abstract complexity: Assemble cloud services into clear platform services and self-service solutions so that development teams can focus on product development rather than infrastructure.
- Build and refine platform automation: Develop CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) that create predictability, quality, and efficiency.
- Scale and operate microservices: Ensure that Kubernetes environments are stable, secure, and scalable for compute-intensive simulations.
- Develop observability: Implement and further develop solutions with OpenTelemetry and Azure Monitor for high reliability and effective incident management.
- Facilitate collaboration: Work closely with developers, architects, and security teams for continuous improvements in cost-effectiveness, stability, and security.
- Coaching and mentorship: Support colleagues' technical development and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
We are looking for someone who
- Has solid experience with cloud platforms, especially Azure
- Has practical experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Has good knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Bicep, or Helm)
- Is comfortable with scripting in Python and/or Bash
- Has experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, or ArgoCD
- Has experience with observability solutions, such as Azure Monitor and OpenTelemetry
- Has a good understanding of DevOps and SRE principles, including automation, SLOs, and postmortems
- Is fluent in English, both spoken and written
It is a plus if you
- Have experience in networking, security, or performance optimization
- Have good knowledge of Swedish
We believe in potential – even if you do not meet all the requirements, you are welcome to apply.
To succeed in the role, you have the following personal qualities:
- Responsible
- Stress-tolerant
- Open to change
- Analytical
